My name is Katie Hernon. I spent 9 years as an elementary school teacher, I am an E-RYT200 and the owner of Present Yoga. Yoga was something that you could say I stumbled upon accidentally. After taking a random class here and there in high school and college, I always left feeling breathless, inept and insecure, rendering me unable to develop a personal practice. In 2016, a parent of one of my 3rd grade students, generously gifted me a free month of yoga at her new studio. I decided to give yoga another chance. What I experienced in that class, in a safe and welcoming space, where breath was prompted, assists were gently provided and props were encouraged, was life changing. Yoga came into my life when I needed it the most and it has been, and always will be, a healing journey for me. I decided to seek certification not only to grow my personal practice, but with the hopes of offering the same comfort, peace and empowerment to my students, that I was offered by my yoga instructor. Now, I am blessed to be able to offer these same ideals, in a small way, to our own Present Yoga Community.
